Santa came a little early for Wonder Woman, and she couldn’t be happier about that! We really try to give our kids gifts that are fun and that they’ll enjoy well beyond Christmas morning. Since all of our kids are huge Minecraft fans (Hubby is even more so!), we knew exactly what the perfect gift would be! We decided to Give the Gift of Fun with Gameband!
If you’d asked me about Minecraft even six months ago, I couldn’t have told you what the heck it was! Then Hubby got started playing it a little on his phone, the kids joined in….and soon it was a big family activity on the Xbox and computer, too! They love doing extra things around the house to earn some ‘Minecraft’ time, and it’s become a big bonding experience for Hubby and the kids, since they can all learn, play and get their creativity going together.
I love encouraging this, but we had a few struggles. The biggest problem being when Hubby needed to work at night, nobody was able to play because Minecraft was only on that computer. When we learned about the new Gameband by Now Computer (affiliated with Minecraft), we new that was exactly the type of gift we wanted to give this holiday!
We swung by GameStop and grabbed one the first day they got some in stock. Just check out their Mobile Gaming section to grab yours. We got Wonder Woman a small (6.7 inches / 15.7 cm) of course. They also have it in Large (7.2 inches / 17.3 cm).
It’s one of the hottest items this year, and any Minecraft fan will be thrilled to get it! When she opened it, Wonder Woman even pointed out the ‘red stone’ on the band….in the game this is used for technology. See, it’s learning experiences like this that make me fully support them playing! One fun feature is that it ships with PixelFurnace, an App that lets you customize Gameband with messages, images and animations that you create and share on the PixelFurnace site. Then you can customize your Gameband with this to make it really fun and unique! It comes standard with a clock, the date, or even a mini Minecraft image.
With the Gameband, you can open it up and plug it into any computer’s USB port. It works with all operating systems, so it doesn’t matter if you have Mac, Linux or Windows. Pull it up, play your game, then it saves right to the Gameband and you can take it to any computer, anywhere! Another feature that can be a huge lifesaver is that it also backs your games up onto their secure, cloud-based servers. If you lose your Gameband, just contact Now Computer with your account info and you can order a replacement with all your data intact. Very handy with kids (and Hubbies!).
It also isn’t a simple ‘magnet’ that holds it closed, it actually clicks into place securely, so it can’t just fall off if it gets bumped. Another super fun feature is that it comes pre-loaded with some really popular maps, so if the kids want to try something different they can!
It’s such a relief to get our kids something that we know they’ll get lots of use for, and will last a long time, too! I love assisting with their creativity, and while I’m sometimes hesitant with games, Minecraft really helps them to learn as they go along. As a family, they built an entire HOUSE in one of their worlds, complete with a bedroom for each person in our family! Even the 3 year old can help out a bit!
It’s also great that it helps my Wonder Woman with real-life, too. At first she hesitated to play, because a boy at school had said it was a ‘boys game’. Oh NO NO NO! It’s totally for EVERYONE! It was a great learning experience for her, and she’s had such a fun time exploring and letting her creative side shine in this game. Now she can play it even more with her Gameband!
