Heroes of the City App & Giveaway!

May 1, 2016 by Kelly Dedeaux

Heroes of the City App & Giveaway / Busy Mom's Helper

I was given a free full-version of this app to review, along with the items included in the giveaway. All opinions are my own.

I’m constantly on the lookout for good children’s apps. Not that my kids are on devices often, but when they are, I want it to be worth it. This Heroes of the City app proved to be just that!

Heroes of the City App & Giveaway / Busy Mom's Helper

When I’m looking for apps, there’s a few things I want: educational, fun, and variety. Along with that, something that my kids can actually DO without me doing it for helping them. The Heroes of the City app was ALL of that! The entire concept is based on little vehicles (cars, trains, etc.) that are alive and rescue/help around their city. For example, here’s Paulie the Police Car, or Harry Hot Rod.

Heroes of the City App & Giveaway / Busy Mom's Helper

Movies: There are HOURS of movies from Heroes of the City included in the app. So cute, fun and the kids really get into it! We found this especially helpful during small periods of time (doctor office wait) when we just need them to be STILL!

Games: Our 4-year-olds LOVED the games, and were able to do them mostly on their own. Green Lantern (age 2) needed more supervision, but Wonder Woman was more than happy to help, since the games were even intriguing for her! Their favorites were the memory game, one similar to Angry Birds where you shoot a crow from a canon trying to get it as far as you can without it hitting/bouncing off things, and a game of putting out fires in the City…..you can BE THE HERO OF THE CITY! There’s also drawing, puzzles, jump over obstacles and SO MUCH MORE!

My Hubby’s favorite aspect was that no matter what score the child gets, even if they ‘lose’, it does FIREWORKS. For the littlest kids that don’t understand scores, this is really rewarding for them and gets them excited to learn/play. It also does show the score/trophy earned, so for older kids like Wonder Woman, it motivates them to try again to bring up their score. Although the games are mostly for fun, most of them have a real learning aspect to them, such as strategy, to help the kids develop their minds.

To get this fun-filled app, just go to either the AppStore or GooglePlay

Want to win your OWN fun with Heroes of the City? Well, they’re giving one lucky winner a fun package! Not only will you get a DVD with about 5 episodes from the Heroes of the City show, but these fun things as well:

A fun-filled story book, which even has a ‘look and find’ section! The kids had a blast searching for their favorite characters in the book. Wonder Woman enjoyed reading the stories to them, so it was great for ALL our kiddos!

Heroes of the City App & Giveaway / Busy Mom's Helper

You’ll also receive TWO die cast metal figures of some characters from the app/show! We received Paulie (police car) and Harry (hot rod). They’re big enough for younger kids, but still nice and small-sized for easy play…..as you can tell the size in Superman’s hands…

Heroes of the City App & Giveaway / Busy Mom's Helper

One note, though: just on Harry Hot Rod, the main screw holding the bottom together wasn’t long enough to hold it. We simply replaced it with a little screw we had on-hand, and it was fantastic after that. It must have just been a faulty one, because Paulie the Police Car’s screw was just great. But as a heads-up, to avoid any choking hazards….watch for this screw if/when you first get it.

Enter now for you chance to win some fun things, and don’t forget to nab the app for some fun and educational time for the kiddos!

Turbo Movie Night

February 15, 2016 by Kelly Dedeaux

Start your weekend off right with a Turbo Movie Night

Turbo Movie Night
My kids like a lot of things, including movies. It’s fun to have a themed night every month focused around a movie we watch together. This month’s feature:
Turbo Movie Night
To start it off, we have some Dos Bros Tacos for dinner…
Don’t forget the stuff that gave Turbo his SPEED – blue drinks! For this I just got some blue Kool-Aid, simple and kid-friendly!
Follow that with some yummy Snail Cinnamon Rolls (normal cinnamon rolls with raisin eyes and swirled frosting) for dessert…
Turbo Movie Night

See, totally simple yet fun! If you want to throw in some games, RACING would be, of course, totally appropriate for this! The kids really love family nights, and it’s just the small extras that really make the memories. Oh – and we have now all been assigned character names from the movie. I’m Burn, I guess!

Frozen Inspired Wreath

Frozen Inspired Wreath / by www.BusyMomsHelper.com #Frozen #Craft #Wreath #Disney
Frozen Inspired Wreath
Have you seen the movie Frozen, yet? We went on my birthday, and it was FABULOUS! Seriously, such a cute story, unique, and the music is just addicting. Ever since we purchased the soundtrack, my kids want to listen to it Every. Single. Day. It’s really fun, because we’ll all be singing along, rocking out. I really recommend you go see it, if you haven’t, especially if you have kids.
My favorite is Olaf – seen here on the wreath. Couldn’t have a Frozen item without him on it!!!
Frozen Inspired Wreath
My daughter, especially, is OBSESSED with it – especially the sister Elsa (who has the Ice powers). She got the dolls for Christmas, loves singing ‘her’ song, and loves blue swirls. So while I was brainstorming a wreath to decorate our otherwise plain door for the next few moths, I decided that a fun Frozen themed one was just perfect for our family. It turned out absolutely adorable, and since I was able to get all of the items on clearance after Christmas, it cost me less than $6! Woo-hoo (I do a little jig on my yoga ball)!!!
Frozen Inspired Wreath
Supplies
Frosted/snowy wreath – $2.75 clearance at Michaels
2 Blue swirls – $1 each clearance at Walmart
Silver leaf/ball decor piece – $1 clearance at Walmart
Olaf & Sisters cut outs – FREE! I cute them off the box her dolls came in
Hot glue, two little strips of ribbon, colorful ribbon bow
Directions
Fluff the snowy branches of the wreath, if needed.
Take the swirly pieces and bend their wire around the wreath frame where you want them.
Hot glue the cardboard pieces to a tiny strip of ribbon, then tie that around the frame so they stay in place.
That’s it – display it for all to enjoy. LOVE IT!!!
Frozen Inspired Wreath
Now – go see that movie!

Grinch Who Stole Christmas Party

May 1, 2016 by Kelly Dedeaux

Grinch stole Christmas Party / Busy Mom's Helper
One thing I really enjoy doing is making themed family nights based on movies we watch together. Remember our Monster Party from this summer, before we went to see Monsters University? That was so much fun! The kids love things like this, and it’s definitely something that can bring the whole family together laughing. So I decided to do a How the Grinch Stole Christmas party!
Grinch stole Christmas Party / Busy Mom's Helper
I love the atmosphere of happiness, fun and love at Christmas-time. Now, I’m not talking the atmosphere at stores such as Walmart, where everyone is cranky, mean and in a hurry. That’s just horrible anytime, especially this time of year. I’m meaning the kids excitement, the counting down fun, and bright lights that put a smile on your face, giving to others, extra opportunities for serve – all of that just really lifts me up out of my normal slump. It’s WONDERFUL!
The Meal
For ‘Who Hash, we did mashed potatoes mixed with ham bits and cheese.
Who Pudding was simply Tapioca pudding turned green. Thinking back, I would’ve done it red.
Our drink was a pink-red Cindy Lou Who Punch. Simply some juice ice cubes in Cherry Pomegranate Crystal Light.
These Grinch Heart Cookies were just fun. I didn’t do them in heart shapes, but the cookie itself is pink (heart) and the cinnamon-sugar outside is green (Grinch fuzz, or whatever). Simple Snickerdoodles!
Want to print your own cards? Here’s some fun printables for you!
I included an empty one, so you can fill in your own little meal name!
The Activity
Needing something quick and simple, we did these coloring pages. Most of my kids LOVE art activities, so it was a winner! I even added this fun poem I found online (don’t know the source, but know that it wasn’t me that came up with it)!
Want some other fun Grinch Party Ideas? These two amazing blogs share some fabulous Grinch-ness!!!

Minion Ornaments

May 1, 2016 by Kelly Dedeaux

We love Minions at our house. Seriously, Despicable Me is one of our favorite shows (the 2nd one is even better!!!), and the kids are always going ‘Ba-na-na’ and ‘Popple’ (Apple, as the Minions say it). So as I’m having fun making ornaments this week – since we had yet another snow day today, so we’re getting stir crazy being all cooped up – I just HAD to make some Minion Ornaments for our tree!
DIY Minion Ornaments / Busy Mom's Helper
These are so fun, so cute, and totally customizable! They’re made very similar to the cute Santa and Elf ones I did earlier.
Supplies Needed
Large Googly Eyes
Blank Ornaments
Glue or Tape
Yellow, Blue & Grey Paper (normal Minions)
Purple, Black & White Paper (purple Minions)
Purple yarn, fluff, etc. (purple Minion hair)
Directions
Cut some Yellow, Blue, Purple and Black strips.
Yellow = Normal Minion Head
Blue = Normal Minion Pants
Purple = Purple Minion Head (duh?)
Black = Purple Minion Pants
Fill the bottom of the ornaments with the pant color, then top with the head color.
Glue the Googly Eyes to Grey (for normal Minions) or Black (for Purple) then cut around to make their goggles. Remember, some Minions have two eyes, some only have one.
Tape or Glue the goggles to the ornament, as shown below.
Using tape or glue, attach the Purple fuzz/yarn/whatever to the top for the crazy Purple Minion hair. Add some funky teeth to them, if you want.
Use some black for the mouths, and add some hair (sticking up, all over, flat – have fun with it!).
