Is It Safe To Put Vinyl Stickers On A Car?

If you were thinking about personalizing your car with a few vinyl stickers, the good news is that you definitely can, and it’s a perfect way to add some much-needed details to your vehicle without having to break the bank.

There is a catch however, if you are thinking of using vinyl stickers on a car, make sure to use OEM-grade vinyl stickers rather than lower-quality ones which can be a lot harder to remove and end up marking and damaging the surface if you ever decide to peel them off.

Instead, these high-grade stickers use durable adhesive which keeps them firmly attached so that they won’t fall off, while also not damaging the car itself, making for a quick, cheap and easy way to personalize your car.

Benefits Of Using Vinyl Stickers For Cars

Benefits Of Using Vinyl Stickers For Cars

The main reason vinyl stickers work so well on cars comes down to the fact that they are temporary, so you won’t be making any permanent decisions when you decide to use them.

Not only are they easy to remove, but as long as you’re careful when peeling them off, they are also unlikely to leave any stains, marks or adhesive residue on the car.

Since they are temporary, this also gives you a tremendous amount of options in terms of customization. Whether you want to use a few creepy Halloween stickers to celebrate the spooky season, or if you want some more festive stickers in the months leading up to Christmas, the options really are endless.

This also makes vinyl stickers great for temporary advertisements for a business or promotion.

On top of all these benefits, there’s also the fact that vinyl stickers are incredibly cheap and can usually be bought in sets which gives you a few different options to customize your car with after just one purchase.

How To Attach Vinyl Stickers To A Car

The easiest way to place a vinyl sticker on a car that I tried and tested is what some people call the ‘wet method’ which essentially means pre-washing the area before placing the sticker on.

To do this, I started by using water and soap, however rubbing alcohol will also work. Rub this substance on the area of the part that you want to attach the sticker to.

This is necessary since it will make it a lot easier for the stickers to not only attach firmly onto the car, but I also found that there was no damage dealt to the car when they were removed, making it a good and effective safety measure.

Once you’re done washing, rinse the area thoroughly and then start attaching the stickers.

This will work for smaller stickers, however for those that are a bit bigger, just make sure to wet the area again after you’ve washed it using mostly water and just a little more soap.

The stickers will not firmly stick right away so you do have a bit of time to readjust and move them around if you want to, however make sure to do this quickly as after just a few minutes I found that the stickers were completely attached.

Once attached, remove the transfer tape (layer attached to the non-sticky side) after approximately 2 hours and your sticker will be fully attached and ready to take on the road.

Is It Expensive To Put Vinyl Graphics On A Car?

You can also put vinyl graphics on a vehicle, however, they are far more troublesome to install and remove so it usually isn’t recommended unless you’re fully committed to using them. Because of this, vinyl stickers tend to be better in the long run.

The main reason for this is the price. While vinyl stickers can be picked up for incredibly cheap, graphics usually cost around $500 for letters and $4000 – $5000 for a full vehicle wrap.

They also take much longer to apply and while they are definitely more noticeable and for some they can look more professional-looking, there are far more benefits that come with opting to use vinyl stickers instead.

Where Should I Put A Vinyl Sticker?

While the amount of stickers you use is entirely up to you, you luckily have a tremendous amount of options on where to actually place them. The most popular part of the car where vinyl stickers are most commonly placed is between the taillights since this allows them to be noticeable without standing out too much.

This works the same when you attach them to the windows or windshields, however if you do want them to be a little more noticeable, it’s never a bad idea to place vinyl stickers on the doors for everyone to see, especially if the stickers are a little bigger.
