My Kids Won’t Stop Quoting Moana
I was invited to an early screening to facilitate this review. All opinions are mine alone.
Disney’s done it again – creating an amazing film that surpasses expectations, and making it unique enough as to surprise the audience with every moment. The previews for Disney’s Moana looked amazing – humor, adventure, teamwork – but it didn’t prepare me (or my kids) for the touching friendships and family bonds, for laughing so much, or for the grip-your-seats excitement that this film brings. And now, my kids won’t stop quoting Moana – and I love it!
Moana is the chief’s daughter, destined to lead her people on their paradise of an island – the island to which nobody ever leaves beyond the reef. EVER. That is, until Moana learns that her only hope of saving her people is to adventure out onto the ocean she loves, find the Demi-God Maui, and return the ‘heart of Te Fiti.
This film shows incredible bonds for family – such as Moana and her grandmother, who is a sort of guide to her all her life (as well as the village crazy lady – love her!).
And while Moana and Maui don’t exactly get along at first – I lost track of how many times he tossed her into the ocean, just to have the ocean help her right back onto the boat – they soon because true friends who will stand together to save the world.
This was a rare time when I had the privilege of taking all 4 of my kids, and here’s a bit of what each of them thought about the movie, and the quotes they keep repeating!
- Hulk and Iron Man loved how Maui could shape-shift. They keep quoting ‘Shark Head’!
- Batman couldn’t get enough of the animals, and keeps quoting ‘I’m so shiny!’ – you’ll know why when you hear that catchy, fun song in the film.
- Black Widow’s favorite part was the ancestors, and their story of voyaging around the world. She keeps singing the songs!
The kids were hilarious in the theater – laughing so loud a few people smiled our way. My Batman would yell ‘chicken!’ at the top of his lungs laughing lovingly at the crazy bird named Hei Hei. My girl has already added the soundtrack to her Christmas list. She loved the music, and I have to agree it was phenomenal – I want the sountrack, too. I also have to say, Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson has a pretty nice singing voice – even as a goofy Demi-God!
Seriously, this is one of those movies where it’s already on our list to pre-order and nab the minute we can because we know it’ll be a family favorite we’ll want to watch again and again! It hits theaters THANKSGIVING night, so make some plans for the fun family weekend to go see this. Trust me, you’ll be laughing, gripping your seat, and feeling ALL the feels when you see this movie!
Oh, and check out what it’d be like with a “Mini Dwayne” 🙂
