Hollywood Studios Things to try Before Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Every Star Wars fan can’t wait to see what Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be like when it finally opens – seriously, I get giddy just from the anticipation! August 29th seems so far far away, but Hollywood Studios is already the place for Star Wars – more than ever for fans to experience before Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens it’s gates and lets everybody in on the big secret. Here’s some suggestions we can all enjoy in the park before the grand opening!

Check out Get Away Today for great vacation prices! Promo Code: BusyMomsHelper

Guided Tour

For a full tilt Star Wars experience, you can reserve a Star Wars Guided tour. This $93 per person experience gives you access to every Star Wars activity and attraction there is in Hollywood Studios. If you’re like me and can’t easily swing that cost, you can have your own Star Wars day with these other exciting Hollywood Studio Star Wars highlights.

Star Tours — The Adventures Continue

Take a photo on a speeder bike and enter the Ewok village on your way to your Star Speeder which now offers several tours around the galaxy. Guided by C3PO, your tour group will explore any of the wide variety of worlds found in the original Star Wars Trilogy and the prequels. The adventure even climaxes with a 3D encounter with a Sith Lord seeking out a rebel spy from among your ranks.

Jedi Training

Enroll children ages 4-12 in this Jedi training course in a secluded Jedi temple. Young trainees will learn the ways of the Force and how to wield a lightsaber. Hopefully, training won’t be interrupted by any agents of the dark side… right? The registration for this event is open from the start of the day and availability is on a first come first serve basis (it often fills up FAST, so hurry to get your spot right when it opens). All participants must be present to register.

Star Wars Launch Bay and Theater

In the Animation Courtyard, you can get photo ops with Star Wars scenery, view concept art, movie props and wardrobe, and finally have an encounter with Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, or BB8. This unique character meet and greet is prefaced with a variety of behind the scenes looks for those who are interested in Star Wars as a series of films. There is even a theater with a continuous running documentary.

Live Shows

Take a Star Wars Break throughout your day with two live shows. Star Wars: A Galaxy Far Far Away is a stage show in the center of the park that features popular characters and scene reenactments from across the franchise. The show features, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, BB8, Darth Maul and Darth Vader. March of the First Order also takes the stage in a demonstration of Captain Phasma’s power.

Hollywood Studios Star Wars Spectacular

When night falls a stunning spectacular of pyrotechnics and projections illuminate the night sky. The exciting show features immersive starship battles and action sequences set to the moving compositions of John Williams. The show now features an action packed segment from Solo: A Star Wars Story as well. You can get in on the action without camping out before hand if you buy tickets for the dessert party for this climactic presentation. Indulge in limitless desserts and savory treats, themed beverages and preferred viewing of the show.

What will you do before Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opens to prepare?

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge (originally shared March 2016) See, isn’t it fun?! I did Mickey-eared numbers from 1-31, so you can count down the month leading up to your vacation. OR combine numbers for a birthday banner for the special persons age! There are TWENTY pages, with 4 triangle banner pieces per page. Just print them off (I recommend cardstock, but that’s entirely up to you), cut them out, then string or tape where you like. Printable Disney Banner / by BusyMomsHelper.com / Disney Countdown My hubby had a super idea (when I agreed it was genius, our Thor said ‘wait…what?!’ Guess he needs to come up with great ideas in front of the kids more often, but it sure was funny!) – String up the numbers, then gently tape a character one on top. So each day you take off the character to display the number! Or you can do it in reverse, and life off the number each day to reveal a surprise character. Yup, totally fun! My kids asked if we would use this the next time we have a Disney vacation – I said definitely, along with my favorite DIY Disney Countdown using a frame and straws! Preparing for Star Wars Land

April 8, 2020 by Kelly Dedeaux

Preparing for Star Wars Land

Disney travel has been a hot topic since opening dates for their new Star Wars Land were announced. With Disneyland’s opening May 31st and Walt Disney World’s opening August 29th, it’s earlier than most had anticipated (especially Disney World, which was originally ‘late fall’!). This means many who had planned to travel around the openings to avoid the chaos and crowds are having to rethink their trip dates. Whether you’re switching things around to avoid anytime near the opening, hitting up opening week or aren’t quite sure – here’s some tips on Preparing for Star Wars Land!

Check out Get Away Today for great prices & help booking your trip! Promo Code: BusyMomsHelper

(some photos courtesy of Disney, used with permission)

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

While nobody REALLY knows what to expect from these huge openings – since there’s nothing really to compare it to except perhaps the Harry Potter lands at Universal – we can make some assumptions and plan as best as possible. What we do know is that for Disneyland’s opening, it will be on a ‘reservation basis’. The details are still a bit fuzzy, but it seems that instead of getting to the park hours ahead of time with the hopes of getting in, people will reserve what ‘time’ they can return to enter into Star Wars Land. Disney World’s version – located in the Hollywood Studios park – won’t be doing a reservation system, and neither park will be doing FastPass/FastPass+. While some are upset at this, I read an article that explains some of the math behind this, which makes sense and actually benefits pretty much everyone.

After several conversations with others, looking at similar times such as Universal’s Harry Potter openings and Pandora over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there’s some tips we’ve all agreed upon that can help us prepare for Star Wars Land the best we can, given the overall uncertainty of how things will be.

Tips for Preparing for Star Wars Land #starwars #waltdisneyworld #disneyland #starwarsland #disneytrip #disneyparks #hollywoodstudios #familytravel

1 – It WILL be crowded

There’s no sugar-coating it, the park WILL be insanely crowded – and not just opening week, but for quite a long time after. If you look at when Pandora opened, there were still long waits for Flights of Passage more than a year later, and this is STAR WARS (so a much more crazy fan base – I can say that because I’m included!). Yes, the few weeks or months after opening will be the absolute worst, but it won’t die down significantly until much later. Also, only the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run will open at first – their second attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, won’t open until a bit later (still no open date for it). That means you’ll have the crowds coming first for the whole area (food, sites, shops, etc.) and one ride, then a big surge AGAIN when they open the second attraction. Some people will wait until both are open, so it’s likely that the second surge will be as busy – if not more so – than the first.

As you plan, just accept that there will be crowds (and if you’re not okay with that, perhaps plan for a year or two out when it may start to mellow) and go in with that as your expectation. Plan to be more patient, wait around longer, be more crowded, and certainly not able to fit in as much into your day. Decide if that’s worth it to you when picking your travel dates.

Check out Get Away Today for great prices & help booking your trip! Promo Code: BusyMomsHelper

2 – Arrive early

Since Disneyland is doing a reservation basis for awhile, this applies mostly to Walt Disney World – get to the gates early. If you’re staying on-site, try to catch the first or second shuttle to the parks to help you be some of the first there. Note: This is for a bit AFTER opening day, as they’re anticipating people may even camp out for that part! But after that initial time, just try your best to get there early enough that you should be in the first few groups allowed into Star Wars Land. As they did with Pandora’s opening, it may be that a certain amount of people get in first, then they have a time limit inside the ‘land’. Once that’s up, another group or number of people get in, and so forth. Not sure if that’s how they’ll handle crowds this time, but given the amount of people and limited room inside the area, they’ll have to limit it somehow. Being early helps ensure you’ll be able to get in at least some point.

Tips for Preparing for Star Wars Land #starwars #waltdisneyworld #disneyland #starwarsland #disneytrip #disneyparks #hollywoodstudios #familytravel

3 – Plan a whole day

Since there’s no guarantee how long it’ll take to get INTO the area, or how long you’ll be allowed once in there, it’s probably best to just plan a whole day for that park. Arrive early so you can get in sooner than the later arrivals, be prepared for lines and waits – then after you enjoy what we’re expecting to be an INCREDIBLE experience in Star Wars Land – you can decide where to go from there based on how long all of that took in the day. Perhaps schedule FastPass/FastPass+ for later in the day, just in case – but you’d hate to have a reservation around 11am only to arrive and find out you will barely be entering that land around then. Don’t rush yourself, as that will add stress and pressure – which isn’t helpful on vacation!

4 – Set priorities

If you’re a huge Star Wars fan (like us!) then you’ll likely put attendance here at the top of your list for your vacation must-dos. If crowds and long lines aren’t your style, and you aren’t too disappointed about waiting longer to see it all, then perhaps waiting a year or so until the crowds die down is the best choice for you. Decide what YOU really want for your vacation. Maybe you’ll still go and have a blast at the other parks, and just avoid this one for now because it isn’t as important to you. For us, we arranged our entire trip schedule so we can attend two days at Hollywood Studios, hoping that will be enough to see and do it all at Star Wars Land – but that’s because it’s high on our priorities.

Also decide if just dealing with lines for the RIDE is what matters, then you choose to hurry out of there to less crowded areas – or perhaps you can’t wait to try the FOOD at the various locations, so those lines are a better use of your time. Also, even if you WANT to see everything, still list out your priorities for once you’re in Star Wars Land in case it takes more time than you planned. For example, if you really want to do the ride AND try the foods, but the waits were too long and time will be out after you do the ride and only one quick service place, know beforehand which one will take that spot out of your schedule.

Tips for Preparing for Star Wars Land #starwars #waltdisneyworld #disneyland #starwarsland #disneytrip #disneyparks #hollywoodstudios #familytravel

Check out Get Away Today for great prices & help booking your trip! Promo Code: BusyMomsHelper

5 – Be ready

Overall, you need to not only have your expectations set realistically and have a good plan – because who knows how timing or crowds or lines will work out – but also make sure YOU are ready. Do you have something to keep yourself (or your kids) entertained in a several-hours-long ride line? Do you have the proper bag and supplies to last you through a very crowded, long day? Be sure you have things like water bottles, great shoes (because all the walking and standing), sunscreen and maybe a hat, plus snacks. After all, if the line wait is 7 hours long, you’re gonna get hungry! Be sure to take care of yourself while tackling Star Wars Land, for your sake AND for the sake of those around you – nobody wants to be in a crowd full of cranky, miserable people when they’re in the happiest place in the galaxy!

Are you going to Star Wars Land this year?

Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers

May 22, 2019 by Kelly Dedeaux

Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers #printable #freeprintable #starwars #starwarsprintable #cupcaketoppers #starwarsparty #printablecupcaketopper

Star Wars was a huge part of my childhood, and marrying a fellow fan resulted in our kids being raised this way as well. Of course, instead of just the originals, our kids get to enjoy the newer films AND side stories like Star Wars Rebels, expanding that world even further. I love sharing this with my family, so it’s only natural we’d love having themed parties or cupcake decorations just for the heck of it! Now you can join in with these Free Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers – and they’re not just great for cupcakes, but also for dangly decor, stickers and so much more!

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

If you’ve enjoyed our previous Star Wars printables – such as stick puppets or the soda bottle gift set  – then these are probably right up your alley! I love how these ones are not only colorful and adorable, but have a little spunk to each of the characters.

Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers #printable #freeprintable #starwars #starwarsprintable #cupcaketoppers #starwarsparty #printablecupcaketopper

There’s quite a variety of your favorite CLASSIC characters – Yoda, Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Darth Vader, C3P0 and R2D2. There’s even one with my favorite couple in the galaxy, Han and Leia together!

Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers #printable #freeprintable #starwars #starwarsprintable #cupcaketoppers #starwarsparty #printablecupcaketopper

To use as a cupcake topper, just cut out and tape to either lollipop sticks or toothpicks then stick into your cupcakes. Easy peasy!

Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers #printable #freeprintable #starwars #starwarsprintable #cupcaketoppers #starwarsparty #printablecupcaketopper

They print nicely onto 8.5×11 size paper (I recommend printing onto cardstock for durability), making them roughly 1.5-2″ (ish) in diameter. You can print into a smaller size if you’re looking for tinier circles, of course.

Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers #printable #freeprintable #starwars #starwarsprintable #cupcaketoppers #starwarsparty #printablecupcaketopper

Another idea is to tape them to streamers or gift wrap ribbon to hang around for decorations. Maybe as a backdrop for a ‘photo booth’ spot during a party?

Star Wars Printable Cupcake Toppers #printable #freeprintable #starwars #starwarsprintable #cupcaketoppers #starwarsparty #printablecupcaketopper

Another unique idea is to print of two of the sheets, cut them out – then do a Star Wars themed memory game. It’s a great way to keep littles entertained for a bit, plus work on their memory AND fine motor (flipping over little circles) skills!

Top Back to School Picks for Disney Fans

July 26, 2018 by Kelly Dedeaux

Top Back to School Picks for Disney Fans #affiliate #ad #disney #backtoschool #schoolshopping #shopdisney #backpack #lunchbox #lunchtote #pencilcase #starwars #superhero #incredibles #stitch #ariel #princess #disneyprincess

This post made possible by shopDisney. All opinions are mine alone.

Parents are in full-swing school shopping mode lately, and I have to admit that I absolutely LOVE seeing all the fun new items that come out every year – especially if they’re Disney themed! Whether you like Star Wars, Princesses, Superheroes or any of the classic characters, these Top Back to School Picks for Disney Fans list has something for practically everyone!

Top Back to School Picks for Disney Fans #affiliate #ad #disney #backtoschool #schoolshopping #shopdisney #backpack #lunchbox #lunchtote #pencilcase #starwars #superhero #incredibles #stitch #ariel #princess #disneyprincess

I could go a bit extreme here if I listed out my favorites in every single school category, so I decided to just do a handful of incredible things that I think kids of all interests and tastes would enjoy the most – and that would work well in getting them through the school year. Luckily shopDisney.com has everything we need, in the many different characters we love!

Backpacks

First of all, I couldn’t resist putting this Stitch Rolling Backpack first because – well, look at it – it’s so stinkin’ adorable!

And for my fellow moms out there who know that those cute ears Stitch has may get ruined in certain situations (airport, I’m looking at you), THEY COME OFF! It’s like the Disney backpack creators have kids of their own so know what us parents want in an awesome bag for our littles.

Not only that, but can you just picture your kiddo opening and closing Stitches mouth going ‘ack, ack, ack’ over and over? I know mine totally would!

You know I had to add some Star Wars fun in here, right? I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t. Our other backpack selection is this not only Star Wars, but also fits in the theming of a classic video game, based off of the one of the originals “May the Force Be With You”.

It looks like it can hold everything your child needs for back to school, plus there’s an optional matching lunchbox you could also get – things are better in sets anyway, right?

Lunchboxes & Totes

Speaking of lunchboxes, here’s a super cute one for any child who has a love of a classic – Ariel! I remember pretending to be mermaids (in a backyard full of grass, our swimming wasn’t too graceful lol) with my friends when I was younger, so this brings back fond memories.

Pencil Cases

The Incredibles 2 just came out recently, so of course kids (of all ages – it’s one of hubby’s favorites, too!) are loving everything Incredibles-themed, such as ‘The Incredible Pencil Case‘! It looks just like Mr. Incredibles car, so not only is it handy for carrying pencils, sharpeners, scissors, crayons, and the like, but the kids will look SUPER cool carrying it around.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (The Past of a Scoundrel)

May 17, 2018 by Kelly Dedeaux

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

The Star Wars movies were a huge part of my childhood – growing up, Sunday afternoons were for watching movies with my dad, and this series was a repeated hit. I have no trouble admitting that my childhood crush was Han Solo – handsome, adventurous, and a good guy deep down. While we got to know Han, Leia and Luke very well during the films and later learned much more about the origins of the twins, we had very little clue at all as to Han’s past. All that’s different with the newest film Solo: A Star Wars Story – and we finally learn more about the past of a scoundrel that we all adore!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbaccaHave you ever wondered how Han and Chewbacca met? The history behind Lando and Han having differing opinions as to who really owns the Millennium Falcon? Or how they got into the life of smuggling and debts? There’s so many stories I considered when growing up and watching my childhood hero as to these answers – but I’ll freely say that NONE of them were as amazing as what we learned in this newest Star Wars movie!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbaccaDon’t worry, I’m certainly not going to do any spoilers – amazing films like this MUST be seen and experienced for yourself, otherwise some of the amazement is gone. Here’s a few things that were downright exceptional, in my opinion, and more reason you need to go see this ASAP (it hits theaters May 25th)!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

First of all, you KNOW there’s going to be epic flight scenes – zooming through space, dodging obstacles and/or enemies, racing to beat the clock. The original Star Wars movies were incredible – so with today’s technology it’s even BETTER and some spots were just jaw-dropping with the graphics.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbaccaAll of the most recent films have had a droid that we couldn’t help but love – and added so much to the humor and personality of the cast, such as BB-8 and Kaytoo (Rogue One). Solo: A Star Wars Story is no exception, bringing L3-37 into our lives and keeping us rooting for this feisty, no-filter lady!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

You not only get to learn more of the history of Han Solo, but other favorites like Lando Calrissian – the ever-flirtatious, confident and sometimes mischievous ‘friend’ who’s just as handsome and charismatic as ever!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca The Millenium Falcon is one of the most well-known ships in movie history, and we get to learn more about this beautiful and powerful lady during the Solo film. Of any ship of any movie I’ve seen, this one is my absolute favorite!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

The cast for the movie was phenomenal – bringing some more popular names mixed in with some newcomers who blew us away. Of all of these, though, I have to say that Paul Bettany was the most shocking to me – I know him best from his role as Vision in Avengers (or the voice of Jarvis previous to that), or as a clever-with-words fellow in A Knights Tale. In Solo, however, he’s a powerful and feared Dryden Vas, crime lord of the group known as Crimson Dawn. I thought it’d be difficult seeing him as a ‘bad guy’, but oh my word he did INCREDIBLE!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

Adventure is a necessity in Star Wars films, and Solo’s movie doesn’t disappoint. From crazy plots, to betrayal, to impossible tasks and more, you’ll be gripping your seat to learn how things do or don’t work out!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

There’s tons of things included in Solo: A Star Wars Movie that make you go ‘oh my gosh, did you hear that’ – because it’s the basis for other things in the ‘future’ films! I couldn’t help but clap like a little kid at a few lines because it was like my childhood all over again!

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

Your emotions will be played with, as Han and Chewie form relationships and trust – whether good or bad – throughout their adventure. They each started out with a specific goal, but how will things work out when everything seems to be going against them?

Solo: A Star Wars Story (the past of a scoundrel) #hansolo #starwars #movie #chewie #chewbacca

I can’t wait to go see Solo in theaters again to catch any other details I may have missed, and to experience this incredible movie all over again. It makes me feel like my childhood is getting some explanations that I didn’t even know it was missing from those years of watching Star Wars with my dad. And I’ll admit, I *still* have a crush on Han Solo 😉

The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level

December 12, 2017 by Kelly Dedeaux

The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

I was invited to a free screening to facilitate this review. All opinions are mine alone. #TheLastJedi

I *know* I’m not the only one who’s been on the edge of their seat waiting for the new Star Wars movie to come out, or the only one who’s rewatched the trailers multiple times, trying to find hints or clues as to what we’ll be seeing. I was practically bouncing in my theater seat, waiting for the screen to pop up with that familiar text and theme song! Once that hit, I couldn’t take my eyes away from the screen, afraid I’d miss even a second of the incredible story. Now, I won’t give any spoilers in this review, because NOTHING could do it justice other than experiencing it for yourself – but let me tell you why I think The Last Jedi is Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level!

The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

You know from the trailers that we still have many of the same cast and characters that we all love (or hate – at least outwardly), but there’s also newcomers who bring quite the variety, adventure and twists to the story. From the seemingly indestructible Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) who we had the ‘pleasure’ of meeting in the previous film, to the confident and beautiful Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo (Laura Dern), it’s a whole crew of personalities!

The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

Finn is finally awake (if you happen to miss practically every trailer so this was a shock, sorry), and teaming up with Rose, who has her own past reasons for fighting so hard against the First Order. Together, they embark on a mission to save what little remains of the resistance, and risk paying the ultimate price for their actions.

The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

I was a huge fan of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) in The Force Awakens, but love him even more as we get more of a feel for his no fear, ‘jump in a ship and blow things up’ character. While this can be a huge benefit during a war, there’s the risk he’ll push too far, costing the resistance too much. Despite his ‘trouble maker’ attitude (though not his intent), it’s really sweet his full respect and admiration he has for Leia.
The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

While Star Wars has always been fabulous at including new species/creatures, it seems they put even more into it for The Last Jedi – not just flashes in the background, but a feel for some of the creatures in this universe and some of their cute, proud or down-right beautiful characteristics.
The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

Most of us had major questions about Rey after seeing The Force Awakens – her history, her parentage, and if she’d follow in Kylo Ren’s footsteps and give in to the dark side. It’s no doubt she’s incredibly powerful with the force, but you can still see the doubt and loneliness fighting inside of her. She came to Luke for help, but can he give her what she really needs?
The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

I love that The Last Jedi answered some of our burning questions in regards to Rey, and built up on her character even more than before – showing how brave and strong she really is, as well as tossing us some surprising twists. That being said, though, there’s still so many directions her future, and that of the Star Wars Galaxy, can head in the final film that we’ll see in 2019!
The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

Star Wars has also been known for wonderful, epic battles – on land and in space – but The Last Jedi blew me away with the advancements they showed. Not only knew ships or advanced AT-ATs that I never knew were possible, but how the wars are fought and won (or lost) were visually stunning and tactically astonishing.
The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

You can still rely on good ol’ BB-8 for some funny antics and faithfulness to his people – whether Poe or Finn. I love this little ball, and so glad he’s still part of the adventure in The Last Jedi!
The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

I said no spoilers, and I’m sticking with that so don’t dare even hint at certain things. One obvious thing is – seeing Carrie Fisher (Leia) during the movie was very emotional, especially for all of us who grew up with her as a role model, and such an amazing woman. Knowing she passed away, it was very difficult. In The Last Jedi, she’s even more admirable, strong and dedicated than ever – although possibly more patient than she was in the earlier films 🙂 I’m sure Carrie’s watching us all enjoy her work from Heaven, and proud of all she helped contribute to us Star Wars fans. We love and miss you Carrie!

The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

One thing the trailers kept hinting at was Kylo’s struggles – but not exactly WHAT he was struggling with. There’s so much turmoil inside him – fear that he’s not strong enough, anger at not being who he wants to be, possibly even guilt at killing his father, Han Solo. Then with some strange connections to Rey, his past is brought back to mind and he has to deal with not only his current struggles, but his previous ones as well. Again, no spoilers – but oh my goodness, you won’t be able to prepare for what’s to come with Kylo Ren and the twists this plot will take!
The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

Luke has definitely changed since the original movies, which loss, guilt and fear can do to a person. While he use to be a symbol of hope to the galaxy, he has none himself. Will he be able to overcome his own troubled past and history with Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, or will his belief that the Jedi should end stay true? You’ll have to catch the movie to find out – and I hope you’re as amazed at the surprises in store as I am!

The Last Jedi: Bringing Star Wars to a Whole New Level (Disney Partner)

With battles more epic than ever, characters you feel drawn to with their well developed histories and personalities, questions answer – and more left to wonder on – as well as more plot twists and comedy than ever before, I believe The Last Jedi is bringing Star Wars to a whole new level, and absolutely cannot wait until the final installment in 2019!!!

Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World

Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World

When my mom and I went on our trip last October, I couldn’t wait to check out everything Star Wars at Hollywood Studios Orlando. I mean, y’all KNOW how much of a fan I am, right? There was so much to see and do, and I’m sharing everything Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World with you!

I’ve heard they’ve added new meet & greet opportunities, like BB-8, but when we went it was Chewbacca and Kilo Ren. Chewie was awesome and welcomed us with a big, furry hug. Kilo, on the other hand, was super serious – and he wasn’t thrilled that our guide, Rob, was sporting an awesome Millennium Falcon shirt. Obviously we were with the rebellion, which Kilo made a point to mention and try to persuade us to the dark side – to no luck, of course 🙂

There’s no way a Star Wars fan can miss the ride, Star Tours – and what better entrance than walking under a huge Imperial Walker?! I’ve always loved this ride, and it was even better since they’ve now added places from the newer films, making even more possible locations you’ll fly through in your space journey.

Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World

While waiting to meet the characters, it was great looking at all the helmets, weapons and figures they had displayed. There’s stuff from the original and new movies, as well as the Star Wars Rebels series – notice Sabine’s helmet in the middle below? That girl’s got style!

Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World

I love that our awesome guide Rob from Michael’s VIPs knew about as much about Star Wars as I do, which made for fun conversation as we explored.

Everyone knows about the Jedi Training Academy, and while my kids have yet to get a chance to participate in it, we’ve always enjoyed watching it. It was a bit different here than in Disneyland, but still awesome and fun. You can grab a drink nearby and sit in the shade to watch while you take a little rest, if you want – we did!

Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World

Captain Phasma and her Stormtroopers do quite the march for the First Order, and she makes sure everyone knows that SHE is in charge!

Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World

One thing on my ‘absolutely must do no matter what’ list was trading with Jawas. I’ve heard it’s kind of hit or miss as to what they’ll trade for (never money or trash, but they seem to like shiny things), so I took a few options. I got a couple of cheap Disney-themed keychains, in case they had an eye for one style of another. My new Jawa friend was pleased to trade a ‘build your own droid’ piece for my Belle keychain. My kids would’ve LOVED that, so we’ll see what we can trade for next time!

As with most (if not all) Disney rides, you end up in a store – since this was a Star Wars store, I didn’t mind in the least – other than the fact I wanted practically everything there! Lightsabers, ships, costumes, even a little interactive BB-8 figure! It was hard to resist buying it all, but the force was with me 😉

Star Wars & Trading with Jawas at Walt Disney World

Oh, and if you need a little break with your littles (or the big kids, too – my hubby would be all over this as well), they have Star Wars Disney Infinity available to take a turn playing at. Plus, it’s inside where it’s cool, so it could be a great refreshing break from the heat of the day.

What to Pack for Disney Trips

December 29, 2020 by Kelly Dedeaux

Disneyland for Toddlers

It’s probably obvious by now that I’ve had many trips to Disney over the years – mostly Disneyland in California, but I’ve been giving Walt Disney World some tries now, too. Since I hate over-packing, but also love to be prepared, I’ve learned What to Pack for Disney Trips that will really help the vacation go more smoothly and may just save the day!

Contains affiliate links that help support this blog at no extra cost to you. See our disclosure.

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Good Day Pack: This is my new favorite bag to take with me to any theme parks because it’s water-resistant, lightweight, AND it can fold up super tiny. It’s got plenty of compartments for keeping your stuff organized, and the shoulder straps are plenty comfortable for wearing it all day. I had no problems with it in any of the parks or rides (that allowed items on), and it was great to have everything easy to get to.

What to Pack for Disney Trips / a great list of what you should take to theme parks

Medicine: I like to keep things like ibuprofen/acetaminophen and allergy meds with me on trips, because you never know when you’ll need them. I also ALWAYS take Dramamine Non-Drowsy Naturals, just in case I would get motion sick on the buses or rides. I want to enjoy my day, not spend it miserable!

Disney Parks Products: whether you want a specially designed MagicBand, or some accessories to add to it, or perhaps a Mickey bag or ears, check out here for some awesome options!

What to Pack for Disney Trips / a great list of what you should take to theme parks

Be sure to check out Michael’s VIPs for great tour guides on your trip!

Portable Battery Pack: Even if you’re ‘disconnecting’ during your trip, you still probably want a reliable battery backup in case you’re taking lots of photos, needing to contact your party in another area of the park, or just in case you need to do another social media share (share the fun!). I take both a large one (to share with others, you can charge multiple devices at a time) and a smaller battery charger one for charging a single device.

Star Wars Fun: if you’re a big fan of Star Wars, like us, then you’re probably going to want SOMETHING to take with you to the parks – maybe a Millennium Falcon jacket, or a BB-8 USB Charger. Whatever you need, there’s so many great products and ideas here!

Ponchos: If you’re going on Grizzly Rapids in Disneyland, or Kali River Rapids at Disney World – or even Splash Mountain – you may want a poncho. Plus, in Florida it often rains during the afternoon many parts of the year, so it’s best to be prepared. You can buy nice, reusable ones  – or I prefer cheap ones that I can just throw away afterwards instead of waiting for it to dry to put it away.
First Aid Supplies: Yes, they do have first aid supplies at the parks in case you get injured, but I like to have a few on-hand for when I’m back at the hotel, or just in case I don’t want to walk all the way to wherever the park supplies are. In case of small cuts or open blisters, I like New Skin, and for blisters on my feet I’m a big fan of using mole skin patches because you will be doing a TON of walking!
Phone Grips: Since you could be holding your phone doing pictures while walking, or in line for a ride, or whatever the reason – sometimes you can get bumped in the crowds and your phone falls to the ground. That doesn’t exactly help a happy vacation! These simple phone grips are nice to have to give a little extra grip on your device, and also more comfortable for your hand.

Hand Sanitizer: I like to keep mini bottles of this on my backpack, so I can easily access if any sticky, or just plain gross, situations occur like a dirty hand railing or ride. It’s also nice and quick if you’re in a hurry to get out of the bathroom, but the sinks are all busy!

Frogg Toggs Chilly Pads: I was really skeptical when people kept recommending these cooling towels, but now I won’t do the parks without them! You get them wet, wring them out, then they’re nice and cool for your neck or arms or wherever. If the cooling affect goes away, just wet and wring them again. Super nice on a hot day in the crowds.
Sunscreen: Okay, probably an obvious one, but you’d be surprised how many people forget – and a good way to destroy a vacation is with a nasty sunburn!

Activities & Autograph Books: This is especially needed if you have kids, but even adults can have fun with it, right? We love our themed books – available via printed books on Amazon or pdf download!

No more boring lines at Disneyland - grab our 2016 'Unofficial' Disneyland Activity & Autograph book to keep the kids happily entertained!

Nab the best deals on tickets/hotel here! Use Promo Code: BusyMomsHelper for more savings!

Water Bottle: You can get free water at the counters in the park (not bottled), so it’s nice to have a refillable water bottle to take with you. If you don’t like the taste of water, grab some flavorings to take with! Since it’s a pain carrying around a bulky bottle, find a good collapsible one.

What are YOUR top picks to pack for Disney trips?

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe

December 14, 2016 by Kelly Dedeaux

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

There’s absolutely no doubt that my family consists of die-hard Star Wars fans. It was a big part of my childhood, as well as hubby’s, and we’ve now ingrained it into our children’s lives as well. They both love and fear Darth Vader, are perfecting their lightsaber skills and wish they could have BB-8 for a sibling. Needless to say, we’ve been anxiously awaiting Rogue One, yet wondering how well it would fit into this intergalactic world. I’m thrilled to say that Rogue One is a perfect piece in the Star Wars Universe, and while it would be great on it’s own, also fits in seamlessly.

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

As I sat with my friend Finding Debra excitedly waiting for the movie to begin, you could tell it was kind of like waiting for Christmas morning for us both. The screen lit up to start, and the whole theater of bloggers and critics went completely silent – it was like everyone was holding their breath for that first moment! Right from the start, you’re pulled into Rogue One with strong, brave characters and a mysterious – yet obviously evil – plan.

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

Don’t worry, there’s NO SPOILERS here – just a few of my thoughts and some big reasons you HAVE to run and see Rogue One when it hits theaters this week!

Probably the Most Laugh-Out-Loud Star Wars Film

You read that correct, I think Rogue One had more laugh-out-loud comedy in it than any of the other Star Wars Films. The whole theater was busting at the seams with the rather chatty droid K-2S0 (voiced by Alan Tudyk) who had a tendency to speak his very calculating mind.

As if his comedic remarks weren’t enough, we also thoroughly enjoyed two partners-in-mischief, Chirrut Îmwe – who’s blind, yet a remarkable fighter with a strong tie with the force – and his buddy Baze Malbus, who’s a gruffy ol’ teddy bear with one heck of a gun!

Flashbacks to the Other Star Wars Films

I guess you could say flashbacks AND a peak into the future. From random appearances of characters from the other movies, and some of the talk that hints for things we know are to come, there’s a lot of fun parts where you just feel right at home tying Rogue One to the other films.

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

Strong Characters – Female AND Male

I was thrilled that Star Wars was including more female leads, showing their strength, determination, and ability to lead men into battle. It started with Rey, who we still have much to see from in future films. With Rogue One, it’s Jyn Erso, a rebellious girl who shocks everyone with her ability to make such a difference to a cause she wanted nothing to do with.

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

By her side is Captain Cassian Andor, who has a bit more to his past than we originally think, and has a strong commitment to the rebellion he’s long been a part of. Along with other things, he learns that trust has to go both ways if this unlikely bunch is going to attempt the impossible and succeed.

Emotions are High – and You’re Likely to Cry at Least Once

For those that know the basic story – or at least the outcome – of Rogue One from the other Star Wars films, you can expect that there will be many tears. Tears of loss, tears of hope and tears simply of touching moments between characters. Like I said, I won’t do any spoilers – but I cried a few times in this movie. Take tissues, just in case 🙂

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

Darth Vader

I wasn’t sure what type or how big of a role Darth Vader would play in Rogue One. He’s in it more than I thought, but still not very much – but where they included him was PERFECT. He still demands attention and fear when he enters a room, and despite all we’ve seen, he still shocks us with his skill and mere presence. And what’s great is that James Earl Jones was back to do that iconic voice!!!

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

I absolutely LOVED this film, and can’t wait to take my whole family soon. Yes, I believe it’s fine for kids who’ve seen the other films – there’s action and fighting, but no more so than the others. I already know their favorite character will be that spunky droid K-2SO, but I’m curious who my hubby will pick. They’re all incredible, with such a well-made cast.

Rogue One: A Perfect Piece in the Star Wars Universe #RogueOne

Head out and nab your tickets for Rogue One so you can see it when it hits theaters this week!!!
