I loved The Jungle Book as a kid. It was one of those Disney films you could watch over and over, then sing the songs for weeks on end! Even now with my hubby and kids, it’s one of those songs we’ll just start singing a tiny bit, and soon everyone’s joined in. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the new version – the trailers looked amazing, but would it be much darker? Or mostly humorous? Turns out, the new Jungle book is thrilled AND funny – plus stunning visuals that make it a must-see!

I got to see an early screening in IMAX 3D – I’d forgotten how cool it is to experience movies this way! From the sound, to the incredibly lifelike 3D, and spots where the whole audience jumped as something jumped out – it was a great way to experience The Jungle Book. And yes, there were some jumpy parts – and also some pretty intense moments where you could feel the tension in the theater, all of us unsure of what was about to happen.
The voice talent chosen was INCREDIBLE! I mean, Bill Murray as Baloo singing ‘Bear Necessities’? Unforgettable! A huge King Louie voiced by Christopher Walken – who then signs a slight twist on the ‘Wanna be like You’ song? Ya – that totally happened and YES it’s as hilarious-and-awesome as it sounds! Then throw in Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Ben Kingsley as Baheera and Scarlett Johansson as Kaa – plus many more fabulous voices? They couldn’t really go wrong with this!
I was thrilled they included those major songs in it – but without making it seem much like a musical at the same time. I’m blown away at how REAL this film looks, too! From the jungle setting and especially the animals – it’s incredibly life-like! I really want to know how they did it so smooth looking, and can’t wait to see more films with this type of CG and such.
Does this new Jungle book follow the storyline of the classic? Mostly yes – but it’s also very different! I know, that’s super confusing – but I don’t want to spoil anything for you, so you’ll just have to see it for yourself!!!
