Is Pete’s Dragon Scary for Kids?
When I was a kid, I thought that Pete’s Dragon was such a cute film! I wanted to have a funny, goofy dragon to be my friend. When I heard about Disney’s new movie, I was so anxious to see it – but the trailers looked like it could be a little much for younger kids. I guess I wasn’t the only one, because after I took one of my twin 6-year-olds to a screening for it, several friends asked me ‘Is Pete’s Dragon Scary for Kids?‘
I’m relieved to say – nope, it wasn’t too scary! Yes, there are some high action moments with Elliot (the dragon) trying to escape, a heart-stopping rescue, and yes I shed a few tears – but none of it seemed to scare my Iron Man the least bit. The exception being right at the very beginning, when Pete is first alone in the woods. Some wolves chase him and surround him for a brief moment, but then Elliot comes to the rescue and the sweet friendship begins.
Not only is Pete’s Dragon perfectly fine for most kids (this is my personal opinion, please judge for your OWN child), but it showed a lot about friendship, bravery and belief. My Iron Man kept talking about what a great friend Elliot was, and how well he took care of Pete.
The cast is incredible, and made this magical film even better with all the heartfelt moments, adventures and little quibbles. Oh – and have you ever been sneezed on by a dragon? Looks rather icky, but hey – at least he gets to see a dragon I suppose!
I don’t want to spoil anything, so just trust me when I say this movie is beautiful – from the fabulous graphics to the touching relationships. The ending will leave you grinning – with possible a happy tear or two. Pete’s Dragon is IN THEATERS NOW – so go nab your tickets and enjoy!
